Sod comes in 1000# rolls and is laid out using this machine. Very quick and efficient job by Parks Landscaping.

Hydroseeding is a mix of seed, fertilizer and mulch.

Outfall ditch at end of cul-d-sac which was graded shallow for easy maintanance and mowing.

Centipede sod was installed at the entrance and any drainage swales to prevent erosion.

Paving day is probably the most anticipated day because it pulls the whole project together and allows something to be final and complete.

Stone is being installed to the required depth.

After the curb is installed the road gets graded and rolled again in preparation for the ABC stone base. The sub base is roll tested for compaction by the State of NC DOT and after the stone is installed and rolled a compaction and depth test will be performed for compliance to DOT standards.

The whole process doesn't take long after the string lines are set the day before. They were done early afternoon.

This curb machine follows a string line which the height was determined by the survey crew. The auger automatically adjusts the height and cuts the dirt ahead of the concrete for a precise finish elevation so water drains properly.

This trencher cuts a 6" wide 4' deep slot fairly fast and the conduit goes in right behind it.

After much more digging, filling and grading the road sub base is taking shape

Working from the deepest part of the road first a cut of 24" was made to the sub base where the ABC stone for the road will be installed

Surveying was done for centerlines of outfall drainage ditches

The outfall ditches are the first to be installed to relieve the site from water when the roadway starts to be dug out

The first thing that had to be addressed it erosion control and installation of silt fence and rock to prevent runoff into nearby waterways and streams

I thought I would start a blog about the development of Homeport Subdivision in Havelock, NC and what was involved from the start. The project started when I purchased the 8.7 acre tract in January of 2006. The property had been logged by the previous owner.
